After hoisting the U16 championship trophy at New England Pro-Am’s 2023 Women’s Chowder Cup last June, Mary Derrenbacher kicked off 2024 adding to her rapidly growing list of hockey accolades. She claimed gold as a member of Team USA at the IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship in January.
Hosted in Zug, Switzerland, Derrenbacher totaled two goals and six assists over six games in the tournament, which culminated with Team USA defeating Czechia 5-1 in the gold medal contest on January 14. It was Derrenbacher’s second stint wearing the red, white and blue of Team USA.
In her six games playing for the Boston Lady Whalers last June, Derrenbacher was once again a better than point per game player as she recorded six goals and three assists, and was named the division’s Most Valuable Player.
The Women’s Chowder Cup will be back again in June 2024 with tournament play at the U14 (players born 2010 or younger), U16 (players born 2008 or younger) and U19 (players born 2005 or younger) levels. Entries are still being accepted. Contact Mike O’Connell by e-mail (michaeljoconnell@comcast.net) or phone (339-469-1399) for entry information.
