FOXBORO – With spots in Sunday’s championship round of the 2024 Women’s Chowder Cup on the line as the final day of pool play rolled along on Saturday, Cheema Hockey continued to make their case for advancement as they upped their tournament record to 2-0-0 when they defeated the WC Swans 5-2 at the Foxboro Sports Center.
The Swans took control of the game early, getting goals from Molly Gooch and Katherine Flippo before the game was even five minutes old. That five-minute mark became a crucial point in the game as Talia Stein scored to cut into the Swans lead and set Cheema on the path to victory.
Cheema scored twice in the second and twice again in the third while goaltender Olivia Cimorelli kept all opposing shots out of the net those last two periods to seal the 5-2 win.
Annabelle Matchett led the Cheema offense with a pair of goals. Stein also had an assist for a two-point contest.
